Overcoming anxiety 50 – hypochondria

Here’s some talk about hypochondria. PLEASE REMEMBER: I’m not a doctor or a mental health expert. Any advice I give should never be a substitute for professional medical and or psychiatric help. All of my advice is solely based on my own experiences and research. Although I talk about downplaying our hypochondria fears, obviously if you are experiencing a medical emergency, dial emergency services or get to the nearest hospital.

BDNF stands for brain derived neurotrophic factor. This molecule, found in the brain’s fear hub could have a significant impact on the study of anxiety disorders including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Dr. Francis Lee of Weill-Cornell Medical College is a leading BDNF investigator and was a recent guest lecturer at the National Institute of Mental Health.

@irkofan This is similar to me, i have a heart issue but not a coronary one. My doctor said it doesnt even cause heart attacks. I have been on the EKG 2 times andboth times normal. Doctors have listened to my heart plenty of times, even during a point where i SWORE i was going to have a heart attack and he just looked at me and said, buddy your perfectly fine. Despite all this I still worry about heart issues that are not there when I have pains or palpitations.

Hey there! Have you tried anxiety zero technique (I think its at anxiety0.info)? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my father pretty much cured panicks with it.

@bwelmhouse1 Definately get that looked at when you can. Heart problems, I learned, shouldn’t be messed around with. At the very least, have ask for an EKG (it’s not too expensive if you have it done in the office). My current beef is having all four of my wisdom teeth pulled. I am so not looking forward to it. X__x

@irkofan The heart is a scary thing to have a condition with. I’m not sure what I have, but something with my heart is amiss. I’ve been terrified to see the doctor about it, but I will eventually. It may just be PVC related to Mitral Valve Prolapse which runs in our family. Amen to finding other people out there is helpful to us!

I (actually) have IST (Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia) with pre-hypertension. These are both genetic disorders and are controlled with medicine. But, sometimes, I get really terribly bad bouts of palpitations (mostly at night) and I get over worried about having a number of very nasty cardiac diseases (which I have tested negative for). I have Hypochondria as well as OCD, anxiety, PTSD, and Bipolar disorder. Finding other people out there like me really helps! <3

@christinemarie696 Hi! I have had hypochondria since young kid. I kinda outgrew some of it as I entered adulthood. I still have it to some degree, but not too bad. Just gets to me sometimes. I have found that in the course of my therapy for the other aspects of my anxiety, that my hypochondria has improved. I’m not really getting treatment for it specifically, as my other anxieties are much worse, and therefore my priorities currently. The length of time to recovery varies individually.

@bwelmhouse1 Thank you. What helps you, and how long have you had hypochondria? How long does it take to get rid of it? In your experience?

  11. bwelmhouse1

@christinemarie696 I would think that it would. I haven’t really treated my hypochondria much, as the other anxiety has been more destructive in my life. I’m receiving CBT for the agoraphobia, which has helped me indeed. I would think that if CBT has helped my recovery from agoraphobia that it would probably help other types of anxiety, including hypochondria. And that’s just my personal opinion.

I am new to discovering hypochondria, Its getting really scary. Do you have any idea if CBT really helps?

    i live with this to…its bad :(

  16. bwelmhouse1

@sarahvida2009 Yeah, hypochondria can be very compelling and scary. But, with our anxious minds we tend to automatically think the worst thing possible. And I found that recognizing that, has helped me get a better grip on my worry-type thinking. I should do another video about hypochondria.

  17. sarahvida2009

I’m sure I have Hypochondria, I wake up every morning feeling sick due to anxiety, and I cannot stomach food in the morning which makes it worse. I always feel like there is something wrong with me.. my girlfriend gets mad at me and says its in my head but I don’t know how to fix it.

  19. bwelmhouse1

    Awesome, thanks!

  20. QUESTED

    Cool
If you ever need some one to talk to while what ever hit me up!

  21. bwelmhouse1

Absolutely! It’s funny how sometimes bad things disappear when we’re no longer afraid of them. I have noticed the tingling has gone away. Once I told myself that even if I did have my worst feared disease, it can’t be cured anyway, so why worry about it. And once I lost the fear of it, the symptoms kinda like vanished.

  22. QUESTED

I get the same sensations… Its all in your head
Its a product of your anxiety When I get the tingles now I just laugh at it and it goes away

I used the linden method or what ever and it works by the way ….

I think I might partially have hypochondria. Whenever I have a sharp pain on the right side of my head I Google symptoms and people talk about how they have tumors and all that and I convince myself that I have a tumor. Or I might feel like I might have a brain aneursym at any given time and die out of no where. I also, like you, had sharp nerve pains in my left arm and elbow and my hands would shake, and I thought I had Parkinson’s disease. I’m glad I’m not alone.

  24. libzcoko14

Hello. lol, im only 12, and i know this is completely ridiculous, but just a couple days ago i figured out i had hypochondria, i always worry, and i understand where u r coming from COMPLETELY! I always worry that i have cancer, or im going to die soon, but how i am trying to get over it is that lots of people have the same worries and we always get through it. Your not the only one :) dont feel alone :)

  25. bwelmhouse1

Wow, that is scary! They won’t let you get an MRI for peace of mind? Can you get a second opinion? Maybe another doctor would let you get that MRI if your current one is denying you of that.
